A local approach to a class of locally finite groups

2003

This paper is devoted to the study of a class of generalised P-nilpotent groups in the universe cℒ̄ of all radical locally finite groups satisfying min-q for every prime q. Some results of finite groups are extended and a characterisation of the injectors associated with this class is given.

Some results concerning simple locally finite groups of 1-type

2005

AbstractIn this paper several aspects of infinite simple locally finite groups of 1-type are considered. In the first part, the classes of diagonal limits of finite alternating groups, of diagonal limits of finite direct products of alternating groups, and of absolutely simple groups of 1-type are distinguished from each other. In the second part, inductive systems of representations over fields of characteristic zero (which are known to correspond to ideals in the group algebra) are studied in general for groups of 1-type. The roles of primitive respectively imprimitive representations in inductive systems are investigated. Moreover it is shown that in any proper inductive system the depth…

Near abelian profinite groups

2012

Abstract A compact p-group G (p prime) is called near abelian if it contains an abelian normal subgroup A such that G/A has a dense cyclic subgroup and that every closed subgroup of A is normal in G. We relate near abelian groups to a class of compact groups, which are rich in permuting subgroups. A compact group is called quasihamiltonian (or modular) if every pair of compact subgroups commutes setwise. We show that for p ≠ 2 a compact p-group G is near abelian if and only if it is quasihamiltonian. The case p = 2 is discussed separately.

Uncountable existentially closed groups in locally finite group classes

1990

In this paper, will always denote a local class of locally finite groups, which is closed with respect to subgroups, homomorphic images, extensions, and with respect to cartesian powers of finite -groups. Examples for x are the classes L ℐπ of all locally finite π-groups and L(ℐπ ∩ ) of all locally soluble π-groups (where π is a fixed set of primes). In [4], a wreath product construction was used in the study of existentially closed -groups (=e.c. -groups); the restrictive type of construction available in [4] permitted results for only countable groups. This drawback was then removed partially in [5] with the help of permutational products. Nevertheless, the techniques essentially only per…

A Gaschütz–Lubeseder Type Theorem in a Class of Locally Finite Groups

1999

The aim of this paper is to present a Gaschutz–Lubeseder type theorem in the class cL of all radical locally finite groups satisfying min−p for all primes p. Notice that these groups are countable and co-Hopfian by [1, (5.4.8)]. In retrospect, the theory of saturated formations of finite soluble groups began with the results of Gaschutz [3] in 1963. He introduced the concept of “covering subgroup” as a generalization of Sylow and Hall subgroups. These covering subgroups have many of the properties of Sylow and Hall subgroups other than the arithmetic ones. The main idea of Gaschutz’s work was concerned with group theoretical classes having the same properties. He defined a formation F to be…
